Westminster Abbey

Westminster Abbey in London (above), makes a romantic day out with the one you love.
The abbey was first founded in 616 on the present site, later the stone Abbey was built around 1045–1050 by King Edward the Confessor. The present church, begun by Henry III in 1245, is one of the most important Gothic buildings in the country. There are around 600 monuments and memorial statues together with many gravestones and commemorative floor slabs, though these represent only a small proportion of the 3,300 people who are actually buried in the church and its cloisters. At Westminster Abbey on 23 July 1986, Prince Andrew, second son of Queen Elizabeth II, was married to Miss Sarah Ferguson.
